"Dancer of the Century" Malakhov is hired as the head of the Ballet Department of Northern Dance

        Beijing Dance Academy officially appointed Austrian professor Vladimir Malakhov as the director of the ballet department. This is the first time in the 70-year history of the Beijing Dance Academy that a top international artist has been hired in a key position in a key field of the school.

Malakhov is a well-known and iconic dancer in the contemporary international dance world, known as the "Dancer of the Century" and the "Prince of Ballet". As a dancer, he has traveled across the Eurasian stage and won numerous honors. As a dance company manager, he founded the Berlin Ballet and made it one of the most influential dance companies in the world. Since September 2022, he has been a full-time professor in the Department of Northern Dance Ballet, actively promoting international cooperation in academic innovation and artistic practice, and establishing a "top talent class" to improve the quality of ballet international talent training and the international influence of Chinese dance. He also works with world-renowned dancers to create dance works with Chinese characteristics and promote them to the world. In February this year, he won the 16th Beijing Great Wall Friendship Award.

Batu, secretary of the Party Committee of Beijing Dance Academy, said that this international talent recruitment is a major measure for Beiwu to implement the strategy of strengthening the school with talents and build a world-class university with Chinese characteristics; it is a vivid vision for Chinese dance art to join hands with colleagues in the world in the forefront and core fields of international dance art; it is also a reform move for the college to break the "ceiling" of the governance system and achieve comprehensive progress in governance capabilities.

After accepting the offer, Mr. Malakhov said he would do his best to repay this responsibility with diligence, dedication and enterprise. On the same day, Li Jun, a former top dancer of the Central Ballet Company, was hired as deputy head of the Northern Ballet Department.
