Guangzhou Ballet Theatre“Flag”won the 13th China Dance“Lotus Award” Dance Drama Award

On May 25, the 13th China Dance“Lotus Award”award ceremony, hosted by the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, the Publicity Department of the Jiangsu Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, the China Dancers Association, and the Jiangsu Federation of Literary and Art Circles, was held at the Jiangsu Grand Theater in Nanjing. A total of 19 works won the 13th China Dance "Lotus Award" Dance Drama Award, National Folk Dance Award, Classical Dance Award, Contemporary Dance Award, and Modern Dance Award.

                                                                           

Among the 19 “Lotus Award”plays and works, 11 have been funded by the National Arts Fund. The dance dramas “Absolute Test”,“Hot Blood Singing”,“Flag”, and“Dream of Red Mansions” won the Dance Drama Award; the dances“Romantic Grassland”, “Maigaiti in the Sun”,“Grandma Field”, and“Tenderness Like Water” won the National Folk Dance Award; the dance “Awakening” won the Classical Dance Award; the dances “Bay” and “Shaping Bones”won the Contemporary Dance Award. Among the choreographers of the winning works and the works performed at the award ceremony of this year“Lotus Award”, 10 have been funded by the National Arts Fund Young Art Creation Talent Project. They are Zhang Peng and Li Mengyu, the choreographers of the dances “Maigaiti in the Sun” and“Lead and Wall”; Tian Tian, ​​the choreographer of the dance “Sanyuetu”;Li Chao, the  choreographer of the dance “Bay”and the choreographer of the dance drama “Dream of Red Mansions”; Yang Chang, the choreographer of the dance“Shaping Bones”; Feng Bilie, the screenwriter, Li Shibo and Ma Bo, the directors of the dance drama“Hot Blood Singing”; Wu Ning and Hu Qinxin, the choreographers of the dance “Red Love”.

The award-winning work“Flag”is a red-themed stage art work that promotes the main theme and spreads positive energy, produced by the Publicity Department of the Guangzhou Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Guangzhou Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Film and Tourism, and created by the Guangzhou Ballet Theater. The whole play is based on the Guangzhou Uprising in 1927, with the era and specific real historical figures as the main line, integrating revolutionary realism with revolutionary romanticism, reproducing the magnificent historical picture of the martyrs fighting for the survival of the country and the liberation of the people, reflecting the tenacity, perseverance and strength of life in difficult times.

                                                                           

It is reported that in order to learn and carry forward the noble moral character and artistic ethics of the older generation of dancers and promote cultural self-confidence and self-reliance, under the leadership of the Central Propaganda Department and the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, the China Dancers Association also selected and commended the “China Federation of Literary and Art Circles Lifetime Achievement Award (Dance)”; for dance artists who have made outstanding contributions to the development of the dance industry for a long time and are highly respected. Among them, Ms. Zhao Ruheng won the“China Federation of Literary and Art Circles Lifetime Achievement Award (Dance)”, and she is also the artistic consultant of the ballet “Flag”.

On the same day, Zou Gang, artistic director of Guangzhou Ballet Theater, went on stage to receive the award as a representative. Zou Gang said that the ballet "Flag" is another beneficial attempt to create and develop Chinese ballet. It successfully integrates revolutionary realism and revolutionary romanticism, expresses the fiery revolutionary feelings with the dance vocabulary of ballet, and uses the narrative method of interweaving time and space to create heroic portraits with heart and emotion. In the future, they will follow the footsteps of the artist predecessors and create more good works that are both realistic and aesthetically interesting.
