Sleeping Beauty is coming soon

From May 31st to June 1st, the classical ballet "Sleeping Beauty" will be staged at the Guangzhou Grand Theater in a new production and rehearsal by Liu Bingxian, artistic director of the Korea Global Ballet Company, specially invited by the Guangzhou Ballet Theater. This production rehearsal is the second collaboration between the Guangzhou Ballet Theater and Liu Bingxian after the 2019 "Nutcracker".

The ballet Sleeping Beauty is adapted from the French writer Perraul- Sleeping Beauty in the Woods. The music was composed by Tchaikovsky from 1888 to 1889. It praises friendship and loyal love. Although it is a mythological theme, the play is infused with human emotions, especially through beautiful music, which makes the compassionate Lilac Fairy appear extremely intimate and vivid. It is hailed as a treasure in the treasure house of ballet music.

The ballet 《Sleeping Beauty》; not only represents a well-known fairy tale, but also represents the 《encyclopedia of classical ballet》and《the light of ballet in the 19th century》, and has never left the world ballet arena. As the premiere of the 《Tribute to the Master》Tchaikovsky trilogy series of activities created by the theater this year, the Guangzhou Ballet Theater has formed a sharp contrast in the version selection and lineup arrangement of 《Sleeping Beauty》 - on the one hand, it is the most authentic《antique version》 of the repertoire, and on the other hand, it is a powerful actor exuding youthful vitality. The play was also successfully selected into the 2023 Guangzhou Art and Literature Support Project and the 2024 Guangzhou Municipal Art Troupe Comprehensive Support Funding Project.

In recent years, Guangzhou Ballet Theatre has been adhering to the creation of original Chinese-style ballet while constantly emphasizing the classical purity of ballet dancers. The dancers of the theatre have continuously competed in international ballet competitions and have won many awards. At the same time, the original repertoires they performed have won the Chinese Dance 《Lotus Award》the Outstanding Repertoire of the China Drama Festival, and the Guangdong Province Lu Xun Literature and Art Award.

According to the production team, this classic reappearance of the ballet "Sleeping Beauty" is not only beautiful in dance and music, but also famous for its luxurious and brilliant costumes, props, scenery and lighting.In particular, the version of the Russian Mariinsky Theater chosen for this performance is extremely exquisite in stage beauty and costume design, showing the luxurious atmosphere of a royal aristocrat.It can be said that this performance is not only a collision of skills, but also a great test of the overall coordination of the performance team.
