On August 9, under the guidance of the Propaganda Department of the Hainan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China and sponsored by the Hainan Provincial Performing Arts Group, the "Free Trade Port, Extraordinary Art" 2024 Hainan Exhibition - the Italian Roman Ballet Ballet Ballet "Juliet and Romeo" was staged at the Hainan Provincial Song and Dance Theater, bringing a wonderful artistic feast to the Hainan audience.
It is reported that "Juliet and Romeo", as the ingenious work of Italian choreographer Fabrizio Monteverde, has won wide praise for its unique artistic perspective and profound emotional portrayal since its premiere in 1989. In 2002, the Ballet of Tuscany and the Ballet of Rome II merged, and once again put this immortal work on the stage of Rome, glowing with new brilliance, and has since become the most important part of the dance company's repertoire. After more than 20 years of unfailing, the play has been successfully performed more than 400 times around the world, with a cumulative audience of more than 300,000 people.
During this trip to Hainan, the Roman Ballet reinterpreted Shakespeare's immortal love legend with its exquisite dance skills and profound emotional expression. Unlike the traditional version, the modern version of "Juliet and Romeo" has carried out bold innovation and deconstruction on the basis of retaining the essence of the original work, giving the characters new vitality and significance of the times, bringing an unprecedented performance experience to the audience.
Unlike the classical version, Juliet is no longer the shy waiting lady, but an independent woman full of strength and courage to pursue self-liberation. Her boldness and rebellion are not only reflected in the active pursuit of love, but also in the brave challenge of old constraints. Romeo, on the other hand, transforms from a heroic rebel to a shy and introverted youth, and his transformation and dedication further highlights Juliet's dominance in love.
On the stage design, the play adopts a minimalist "industrial style" concept, combined with cinematic lighting effects, to create a unique visual atmosphere. Especially the balcony duet section of the "rock climbing version", the classic "balcony" no longer exists, replaced by the exterior wall of a modern high-rise building; Juliet is no longer shy, but climbs down from the high wall to actively express love, and subtly integrates modern elements into the classical story, showing Juliet's determination and courage to bravely pursue love and control her own destiny. This innovative design not only brings a new viewing experience to the audience, but also adds more modernity and depth to this classic love story.
