The head of the Mariinsky Theatre Ballet is touring Beijing

When the agile Arabic melody looms in the magnificent orchestral music, when the ballet's body language unfolds the oriental charm, reality melts into a dream, and time goes back to childhood, the dusty fairy tale world will be opened again - from August 23rd to 25th, the Russian Mariinsky Theater Binhai Branch Ballet will be on stage at the Beijing Art Center, bringing the exotic ballet "One Thousand and One Nights" to the audience.

The story of search banner, Sinbad and Alibaba was born in the oasis and desert of the Middle East, but it spans thousands of years and accompanies the childhood of readers all over the world. The ballet "The Thousand and and One Nights" is adapted from the well-known Arab and Persian folk tales of the same name, and vividly reproduces the legendary stories full of fantasy and charm in the form of dance. The heroine Shehrazad influenced the cruel king with a philosophical story one by one. Her telling connected the three most well-known legends of "Sinbad the Sailor and the Big Bird", "Search Banner Magic Lamp" and "Alibaba and the Forty Thieves" on the stage, making the whole play present the structure of an outstanding dance drama.

The ballet "One Thousand and One Nights", which will be presented to Chinese audiences this time, is a new version produced by choreographer Eldar Aliyev for the Mariinsky Theater Binhai Branch. The dance vocabulary is full of rich oriental style, with one-handed lifts, fancy circles, and full dances... The most dazzling and difficult movements of these ballets will also be frequently presented in the ballet "One Thousand and One Nights". The music of the play was composed by the Azerbaijani national composer Fiklet Amirov. The composer boldly interweaves Eastern melodies with European classical forms, using a wealth of percussion instruments such as bongo drums, gongs, xylophone, vibraphone, drums, carillons, timpani drums and cymbals, and adding the traditional Azerbaijani stringed instrument Thar to the orchestration, composing a gorgeous Arabic movement. In addition, gorgeous palaces, mysterious caves, starry night skies... Colorful stage sets and exquisite costumes deeply interpret the cultural background of the story, making the audience feel as if they are in the ancient Eastern world.

In this performance, the audience in Beijing will have the opportunity to enjoy the wonderful performance of the chief dancer of the Mariinsky Theater, Timor Askrov. The reporter learned that the Mariinsky Theater Binhai Branch is one of the most modern theaters in Russia and the Asia-Pacific region. It was built for the 2012 APEC Summit. Its artistic director was even led by Valery Gergiev, an old friend of the Mariinsky family and the National Center for the Performing Arts.
