I regard Xiamen as my second hometown and want more people to understand the dance level of Xiamen University

Xiamen Evening News (Reporter, Lin Xiaoyun) Recently, the WBGP World Ballet Grand Prix and WDGP World Dance Grand Prix sponsored by the International Federation of Ballet Competitions (IFBC) of UNESCO ended in Tokyo, Japan. Ou Rui, a Chinese dancer and Xiamen University alumnus, brought his original works "Endless Life" and "Pure Land" to win the Special Award of the Modern Ballet Adult Group D Organizing Committee (the highest award) and the Gold Award of the World Folk Dance Adult Group D. Ou Rui is the only professional player in the adult group to win the Special Award of the Organizing Committee in this competition.

Ou Rui studied and taught at Xiamen University, including 4 years of undergraduate study, 3 years of master's degree, and 6 years of work. He is currently pursuing a doctorate in dance in Seoul, South Korea. This is another achievement after he won the Gold Medal in the Modern Ballet Senior Group of the World Ballet Competition in Tokyo, Japan in 2017, the Gold Medal in the Senior Group of the International Ballet and Modern Dance Competition in Lecce, Italy in 2023, and the Senior Group Creative Dance Award of the World Dance Competition in Korea in 2024.

Ou Rui, graduated from Xiamen University School of Art (2009 undergraduate, 2013 master's degree), studied under Professor Li Na, taught at Xiamen University School of Art, and is now studying for a doctorate in dance in Korea; member of the Chinese Dancers Association, vice president of the Fujian Ballet Association, deputy director of the "Literature and Art" Art Committee of the Fujian Provincial Dancers Association, young dance talents of the Fujian Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and director of the Xiamen Dancers Association.

"I want to spread the fame of Xiamen University dance"

Ou Rui recently gave a remote interview to reporters in Seoul. He is a native of Wanning, Hainan Province, and said with a smile that he came to Xiamen University by mistake. He has been practicing dance since childhood, and his softness and flexibility are outstanding among his peers. In 2009, he won the sixth place in the dance major of Minzu University of China, the fifth place in Beijing Normal University and the first place in the Art College of Xiamen University, but he chose Xiamen University and stayed in Xiamen.

Ou Rui calls Xiamen his second home. During his 13 years at Xiamen University, what impressed him most was the relationship between teachers and students at Xiamen University. Students from all over the world spent countless good times in the practice room. "Our class is very united and the atmosphere is very good. After graduation, half of the class stayed in Xiamen, and it was also the feelings that kept me at Xiamen University. I hope that my alma mater and alma mater will be recognized by more people. So I have always taken challenges to do dance well and spread the reputation of Xiamen University dance," he said.

He has participated in large and small performances of Xiamen University, and has also visited abroad on behalf of the school many times. In 2021, Xiamen University celebrates its centennial anniversary. At that grand party, Ou Rui led the dance many times at the beginning, middle and last parts of the party. "For the opening dance, I took more than 300 students from the main stage along the road of'Southern Strength ', ran for 100 meters, and ran to the auditorium of Nanjing University. I really burst into tears and was very excited."

Ou Rui began to study Chinese classical dance professionally at the age of 10, and at the same time, he also laid a good foundation for the basic skills of ballet as a dancer. When he was a graduate student, he began to study modern and contemporary dance. Many people praised his dance as impossible to imitate, with its own symbols and styles. Ou Rui believes that whether it is Yang Liping, Jinxing or several outstanding dancers at the national level, they all pursue their own individuality. To win this competition, he felt that he danced more freely than others, not imitating Western routines, but with his own expression.
